Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform, federal cannabis de-scheduling, the possibility of citizenship for undocumented immigrant immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
